1. A Will is a document that:
You’re right! A Will is all of these things. It is a legal document that makes sure your affairs are in order. But it is also a way to pass down values to future generations, and make a meaningful contribution in this world. This is what we call an ethical Will.

2. You can include a charity, or any other organization as beneficiaries in your Will.
You’re right! Beneficiaries don’t just have to be people. You can include a charity, a non-profit, a school, or another type of organization in your Will.

4. When you support a cause in your Will, you are taking away from your ability to support your loved ones.
You’re right! There’s room to support both your cause and your loved ones in your Will. Even 1% of your estate can be a significant contribution to your cause, and you still leave enough to support family.

5. Leaving a donation in your Will can reduce, or even eliminate the taxes paid by your estate
You’re right! When you pass, your estate is likely to receive a sizeable tax bill. When you leave a donation in your Will you get a charitable tax receipt that can significantly reduce those taxes. There are even ways to structure your gift so you eliminate taxes altogether.

6. Most Canadians are able to make a bigger contribution to their cause through their Will. The average gift left in a Will is:
You’re right! The average gift in a Will, left by ordinary Canadians, is $35,000. How is this possible? Think of your estate - your home, your savings, etc. That can be a tidy sum. Leaving even 1% of your estate for your cause can be a major donation. When else would you be able to make such a big impact?

7. It is recommended that you involve your family when making your Will
You’re right! It is a good idea to think about involving family if you can. That way there won’t be any surprises. It doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. Involving family in your plans can lead to motivating conversations about life and purpose, and even inspire a family legacy that future generations can rally around.

8. When you leave a gift to charity in your Will, you don’t know it will be used
You’re right! It is important to speak to your charity when including them in your Will. A charity professional can help you understand how your gift can meet future needs and show you how it will have impact.

9. It’s hard to change or amend your Will once it has been finalized
You’re right! Professionals recommend you review your Will every 5 years. Things may have been changed in your life. If those changes are small, your legal advisor can simply update a clause in your Will. If the changes are big, your may have to re-do it.

Thank you for your interest in OrKidstra.

Due to our limited number of spots available, we are currently only enrolling students who were 5 years or older as of June 1, 2025 (born before June 1, 2020). We can see that your child is currently too young, and therefore we are unable to offer you a spot in the program at this time.

We encourage you to reach out again in June 2026, once your child is within the accepted age range of 5-18 years old. If you have any further questions, please email us at programadmin@orkidstra.ca and we will be happy to connect with you.

Many thanks for your inquiry, and we wish you all the best!
