OrKidstra launches programming in Heron Gate!
OrKidstra is now in Heron Gate! On April 17, 2024, OrKidstra launched a pilot project of our free KidSingers (choir) program in the equity-deserving neighbourhood of Heron Gate.
Led by Teaching Artists Ms. Christine and Mr. Emmanuel, and facilitated by OrKidstra staff and volunteers, the afternoon was filled with music, games, and treats, with peer mentors from our Centre Hub joining us to welcome over 40 new students on the first day. It was amazing to gather with families in the Heron Gate community – the energy and enthusiasm for the journey ahead was abundant. Over the next 8 weeks, right in the heart of Heron Gate, students will participate in KidSingers classes each Wednesday in the critical after-school hours, enjoy healthy snacks, and create lasting friendships in a space of creativity and belonging.
