announces partnership with the Vanier Social Pediatric Hub housed at the Vanier Community Service Centre

OrKidstra’s Satellite Site (located at 270 Marier Ave.) is now accepting students from the Vanier area for its free, bilingual, after-school music programs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, Ont. – September 28, 2017 – OrKidstra and the Vanier Social Pediatric Hub are pleased to announce a partnership which has resulted in the creation of an OrKidstra Satellite Site located at the Vanier Social Pediatric Hub housed at the Vanier Community Service Centre (270 Marier Avenue). OrKidstra’s Vanier Satellite Site will enhance the existing services at Vanier Community Service Centre’s Family Services and provide the opportunity for youth, ages 5-18, to participate in OrKidstra’s award-winning social development through music programs in the critical after-school hours.

OrKidstra is a charitable, social development program that teaches life skills to children from under-served areas through learning and making music together. OrKidstra currently operates two community hubs in Ottawa, which provide free after-school programs, including the Centretown Hub (Bronson Centre – 211 Bronson Avenue) and Vanier Hub (Ottawa Technical Secondary School – 485 Donald Street). Co-Founder and Executive & Artistic Director Tina Fedeski, M.S.M. is thrilled that the new partnership will bring a bilingual version of OrKidstra’s KiddlyWinks and KidSingers program to up to 40 additional students in the high-needs area of Vanier. “OrKidstra’s barrier-free music programs encourage social engagement and community building through making music together,” Ms. Fedeski said. “The Vanier Social Pediatric Hub at the Vanier Community Service Centre shares OrKidstra’s goals of caring for the community through a holistic approach to child development. We are delighted to be working in partnership them.”

Stéphanie Fragman, Director of Family Services, Vanier Community Service Centre is very pleased that the Vanier Social Pediatric Hub will be collaborating with OrKidstra to empower children through music. “The Vanier Social Pediatric Hub is an innovative initiative, which integrates a comprehensive and holistic approach to health into existing social services for children, youth, and their families,” Ms. Fragman said. “This partnership will reduce barriers to arts participation and increase access to the arts for children and youth residing, or attending school, in Vanier.”

OrKidstra’s after-school programs for kids ages 5-18 at the Satellite Site, offered in a bilingual format, will start on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 and run weekly until June 2018 at 270 Marier Avenue. To register for OrKidstra’s programs, please visit https://orkidstra.ca/programs/join-orkidstra
