OrKidstra Board of Directors Announcement
OrKidstra recently held its 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the Board of Directors looked at everything that was accomplished over the last year and planned for the future.
After a leave of absence during the 2022 Municipal Elections, the newly sworn-in Mayor of Ottawa, Mark Sutcliffe, has officially stepped down from the OrKidstra Board of Directors. Mark says, “While I’m excited about the reason for my departure, I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to serve on the OrKidstra Board. Thanks to Tina and the wonderful team, this was one of the greatest volunteer experiences of my life, one that I will treasure for a long time.” Thank you to Board Member Jeff Heynen for stepping in as Interim Chair during Mark’s absence. Elected Chair of the Board in 2020, we thank Mark for his outstanding leadership of OrKidstra and wish him all the best on this new journey.
We are pleased to say that long-time Board Member Paul Wells was elected Chair at the 2022 AGM. Paul says, “Getting to know OrKidstra has been one of the best things to happen to me in recent years. It’s a fantastic organization, thanks to the students, their families, and our wonderful instructors and staff. I look forward to helping OrKidstra grow so it can help even more young people reach their potential.”
We are thrilled to officially welcome two Directors – Michael Maidment and Riaz Mohammed – who had been serving as Interim Directors, and one new Director – Cathy Doolan. These newly elected Board Members bring a wealth of experience to the organization as well as deep roots in the community. Riaz says, “I look forward to helping bring OrKidstra to students in Ottawa who might not otherwise have access to music programming.”
We are pleased to announce that Michael Maidment was elected Vice-Chair, Chayanika Abeysekera-Lutes was elected Secretary, and Marie-Josée Lambert remains Treasurer as of the 2022 AGM. Jeff Heynen, Salim Charabati, and Sean McGee all continue as Directors.
We say goodbye and huge thanks to Director Lynda Heyden-Carroll, who has completed the maximum number of years permitted on the Board. As a Director since 2013, Lynda has been instrumental in OrKidstra’s growth and has brought joy to the entire OrKidstra family. We also say goodbye to Board Member Jeanne Inch, who is stepping down to pursue new opportunities. We thank Jeanne for her dedication and volunteership.
