Become A Volunteer

OrKidstra could not give children the opportunity to learn and make music together without the help of our dedicated volunteers! We have a variety of ongoing and occasional volunteer positions available, as described below. If you would like to volunteer in any of these positions or have other skills you’d like to contribute, please contact Program Coordinator Katherine Neale with your areas of interest at Please note that all volunteers must have a current police check for the vulnerable sector.

  • AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM VOLUNTEER: As an After-school Program Volunteer, you will play a key role at the organization. Responsibilities include: preparing healthy snacks; monitoring the welcome desk, child safety; interacting with our amazing families!
    Time commitment: Regular Volunteers– One or two days a week, during the school term, from approximately 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Occasional Volunteers– Be on call as a substitute for regular volunteers in case of illness, etc.
    Locations: The Bronson Centre (Centretown) and Rideau High School (Vanier)


  • HANDYMAN/HANDYWOMAN: As a Handyman/Handywoman Volunteer, you will be asked to assist with odd jobs around the studio – hanging shelves, fixing drawers, repairing instrument cases, etc. using your own tools.
    Time commitment: This volunteer position is for occasional work as the need arises.
    Location: The Bronson Centre (Centretown)


  • VIDEOGRAPHER: As a Videographer, you help capture the magic! Videographers are responsible for bringing and setting up their own equipment at concert venues, and recording approx. 75 minutes of footage.
    Time commitment: This volunteer position is for occasional work as the need arises.
    Location: The Bronson Centre (Centretown)


  • BAKER: As a Baker Volunteer, you will work with programming staff to come up with and prepare nutritious and budget-friendly snack ideas (such as healthy muffins) in your own kitchen to nourish hungry tummies after-school.
    Time commitment: An afternoon of cooking once a month and delivery to OrKidstra.
    Location: Bronson Centre (Centretown)


  • EVENT DRIVER/ROADIE: As an Event Driver, you will be responsible for helping to transport kids & instruments (double bass, cellos, etc.) to local events (using your own vehicle.) A clean driving record is a requirement of this position. We also need strong men and women who can help set up and strike the stage.
    Time commitment: 3-4 hours at concerts (Dec., May & June) and other events, subject to your availability.
    Location: Various locations within the core of Ottawa
